Environment Agency of England and Wales
The Environment Agency is the environmental regulator for England and Wales with powers and duties relating to environmental protection, flood defence, water resources, fisheries, recreation, conservation, and navigation. The Agency has specialist in-house technical expertise on numerous remediation technologies, including permeable reactive barriers. The Science Group is responsible for co-ordinating the Agency’s role in the project. It provides a focus for the scientific assessment and expert advice on biological effects and ecological measures to identify environmental impacts and provide diagnostic capability for remediation options.
The Environment Agency brings to the NITRABAR project considerable experience in European projects, including valuable links with other LIFE Environment and LIFE Nature projects. As part of its involvement in the NITRABAR project, it will offer technical guidance, including critically reviewing the design and implementation of the NITRABAR system at the demonstration site. The Agency is working with the University of Oxford in the management of the project website and the development of on-line learning tools and other knowledge transfer media.
